Are you in the mood for watching a good scary movie? Then Apollo 18 is the choice for you. This science-fiction horror flick takes place during the Cold War between the United States and Russia. A small team of astronauts launch to the Moon on the Apollo 18 mission, which actually never happened in our history. Things go terribly wrong when they discover that they are not alone on the desolate Moon.
Apollo 18 is a movie that delivers many frightening moments and the execution of suspense is great. I found myself at many points of the movie literally on the edge of my seat, wondering what horrifying thing will happen next. Despite the horror elements of this movie, the identity of the antagonists can be viewed as almost humorous, as well as interesting. Overall, Apollo 18 delivers what so many other horror movies crave to do- install fear into its audience.
However, there are some aspects of the movie that keep this movie from greatness, particularly the ending. The plot itself, unfortunately, is somewhat cliche and almost feels like a rip-off of other popular mockumentary movies like Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project. The ending is also bland and feels like it doesn’t successfully end the movie. Despite these faults, Apollo 18 is actually a decent movie that delivers some very scary moments, but it just can’t top some other scary movies.
