It is that time of the year again: time to clean out your closet. Like always, the fashion world is changing. What was popular last year is not at the top of the fashion trends anymore. When preparing for spring and summer of 2012, it is hard to know what to keep and what to toss. But don’t fret!
Girls: Because of the lovely summer weather in the the beginning of spring, winter clothes need to be put away. It is time to say goodbye to the UGG boots and North Face fleeces for now. I know it hurts, but you’ll both be much happier if they’re in the back of your closet.
Guys: Due to the extreme heat, give your moms the varsity and leather jackets to hang up for next winter. You may look good in them, but heat stroke is not a turn on.
Skinny jeans are leaving the scene just as quickly as they arrived. Replacing them for girls are leggings, tights, shorts, and body con skirts. Replacing them for guys are dress pants, fitted, straight, or boot-cut jeans, and khakis.
So now that you’ve put all your winter clothes away, what should you wear now?
Colors. This goes for both the ladies and the gents. Bold colors are in. Neon greens, pinks, oranges, and yellows are a hot choice for girls. Bright colors like oranges, greens, and golds. (When we say gold, we’re not talking about metallic, Las Vegas Gold, we mean more of an earth-tone, mustard.)
Patterns. For a while, floral and tribal patterns have been in. As summer comes, these patterns are becoming more popular among women. Oversized florals, mirror-like geometric shapes, and even parrot prints are becoming increasingly popular. Another popular print is futuristic patterns, including metallics, pixilated prints and swirling graphics.
White. White has always been popular, but it has recently gained popularity among both men and women. One of the newest trends is white pants. Plain white pants or white t-shirts are in right now.
Semi-formal dress. For guys, wearing dress pants with a button down is no longer only for special occasions. Wearing a tie or sports coat is more accepted in a casual setting. This doesn’t mean jeans and t-shirts are a no-go, but it’s healthy to change up the way you dress once in awhile. It’s official, the classy look is in. (This also applies to ladies, don’t be afraid to throw on a dress every once in awhile.)
RECAP. Out- skinny jeans, UGG boots, and varsity, Northface, or leather jackets. In- dress pants, shorts and skirts, bright and pastel colors, awesome patterns, the classic white, and semi-formal dress wear. As spring approaches, it’s time to embrace the new changes. Have fun and keep it classy.
