The Bishop Noll Science Olympiad team placed 8th at the State tournament on Feb. 26 at Purdue Northwest in Hammond.

Junior Itzury Becerra thought that even though Bishop Noll had a small team, they were still successful.

“The Science Olympiad did their best with what we had and we were able to qualify for state,” she said.

Eleven students participated in this year’s Science Olympiad tournament.

In the Science Olympiad, you have to make something and hope it wins, but Becerra worked on another aspect of the competition.

“I didn’t create any projects. Instead I studied different subjects to take tests on,” Becerra said.

The Science Olympiad team met after school in the STREAM lab to prepare for their competition. They are already thinking about next year’s competition in hopes that they will place higher.

“The team is working on coming back bigger and stronger,” Becerra said. “We are focusing on spending more time on our projects and planning to participate in more events.”
