As you may know a new law was recently created regarding PE. The law states that if a student plays two semesters of any sport they are not required to take a PE class. This new law may present many pros, but it also presents many cons.
PE classes are important to help keeps student healthy and in shape. Currently, two-thirds of all US adults are obese. America is facing an Obesity epidemic and the last thing we should be doing is not requiring students to take PE. PE helps to teach kids how to stay in shape and maintain a healthy weight.
PE helps students develop good habits to stay healthy and fit. These habits can not be developed if the student is not required to take PE simply by playing a sport. America is in an Obesity epidemic and this new law is not helping Indiana get healthy.
This current law includes anything that is considered a sport. This includes bowling, marching band, cheerleading, and golf. These are not the most rigorous sports and it really takes away the whole idea of PE. If this law is to remain, I believe they should exclude these sports and only keep the rigorous ones such a baseball, football, swimming, track, etc.
