One of the top stories going into the NBA’s All-Star Weekend is the debate of who would be placed in basketball’s “Mount Rushmore”. It would be a hard decision to only name four without including some of the leagues best. I mean there’s so many names to choose from; you got Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Larry Bird, and Captain Skyhook himself, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. So how can you possibly only choose four to be the best all time.
The reason this debate has been so popular is because Miami Heat superstar forward LeBron James added his opinion on who would be on his Mt. Rushmore. His list included Michael Jordan, Magic, Larry Bird, and Oscar Robertson. Leaving one of the greatest winners of any professional sport out of his list, Bill Russell. Even though Russell was apart of a different age of basketball we can’t forget about his credentials. He has won eleven, eleven, championships in his NBA career. He has also won several championships in his high school and college career. LeBron then stated that one day his face will be on Mt. Rushmore. So the question is who will he replace?
Something to think about is not why certain superstars were left off but what are the qualifications to be on Mt. Rushmore. Alot of questioning has been going around about why Kobe has not been named on the list. People say the reason he was left off is because his game is so similar to MJ’s. Then you have those people that criticize every move LeBron makes. They want to know why is he saying he will be the top four ever to play. Personally, I am not a fan of LeBron James, but I like where he is going with this. LeBron wants to be the greatest to ever play the game, so there is no knocking that.
