Two girl cross country runners made their way out of sectionals but ended their season early at the regional championship at Crown Point on Saturday, Oct. 12.  Sophomore Mary Buksa and senior Julianne Hoff both qualified for regionals. It was Buksa’s second year running regionals and Hoff’s first year running cross country and regionals. “Going into regionals both Mary and I knew it was going to be the last of the season so we gave it our all and did what we could,” Hoff said.

At the beginning of the season Hoff and Buksa were the only two girls running cross country. Halfway through the season, seniors Alondra Diaz and Guadalupe Gonzalez joined the team. Hoff finished sectionals with the time of 28.05. “My main goal was to finish the race in hopes of improving my time” she said. Buksa’s fastest time this year was 25:32. “My key of advancing to regionals was making sure that didn’t give up physically and mentally,” said the sophomore.

Unfortunately for the senior Hoff, her cross country career ends here. She said she  will miss the dance sessions before practice and will cherish watching movies and laughing during ice baths.

But for sophomore Mary Buksa, this was her rebuilding season. “I know what I need to work on for next season and I’m hoping to have a stronger postseason,” she said.
