Varsity soccer player Daniel Salazar, senior goalie, was selected by Top Drawer Soccer as an All American Player to Watch in August. Top Drawer Soccer is the official website that ranks and scores soccer events for club and high school soccer. When selected, they used Danny’s stats and previous performances over the past three years of high school and club seasons.

Danny started playing soccer at the age of six, and his biggest inspiration is his father, who he’s been watching as he grows up. Danny is considered one of the top goalies in Northwest Indiana by both Top Drawer Soccer and local journalism outlets.“Leadership is a vital key in being a goalie,” said the senior, “A goalie’s reflexes and decision making is very important as well.”

Bishop Noll soccer has changed since last year, having new head coach and the loss of key players like Alex Romo and Sergio Marquez. Danny coped with these situations well.

“Coach Cloghessy has been there every step of the way since freshman year,” said Salazar, “sophomores Bruno Zamora, Jaime Hernandez, and Noah Reid have stepped into those key player role”

Last year the soccer team won regionals and plans on going on to state this year. “Our biggest obstacles are minor mistakes made,” said Salazar, “we’re working hard every practice to make sure it doesn't prevent us this year.”

Danny plans on graduating Bishop Noll and playing soccer at the college level. He has plenty of offers, but his top choices are Valparaiso University and Wabash College. “I plan on committing very soon”, said the senior goali.
