People are racing out the door at six o’clock leaving Thanksgiving dinner, but for what? To go stand in the cold for four hours? To save a couple dollars on presents? To get their teeth knocked out or to get trampled for the hottest toy? Black Friday’s name fits it well because it’s the holiday of bad things. Four people died and 75 were injured this year, all for toys and gifts that you could just buy online. We give up so many things just to celebrate this shopping holiday. We give up spending time with our loved ones, we cut dinner short, only to wait outside in lines and freeze our butts off. Why be thankful the day before and then go beat up an old lady over a new coat the next day? Isn’t that a contradiction?
Black Friday has been around for years. My parents used to leave me with my sister to go stand in line. However, over the years, Black Friday has improved. Now, people can get wrist bands in order to get exactly what they came for. There really shouldn’t be any fighting, but every once and awhile, things don’t go as planned. People throw pajama sets from across the store and knock over bins of movies, just because they aren’t civilized enough to go through it orderly. I’ve seen a kid get hit by a police car because he ran across the street to stand in line. I’ve seen an old lady get knocked down because she was the first in line. People don’t care how young or old you are; if you’re pregnant or if you have small children.
Stores on Black Friday become a mosh pit, with people fighting like wild animals over the newest video games and electronics. People act mercilessly, especially if they’re trying to save a couple dollars. More people are likely to get hurt Black Friday than to get hit by a bus. The employees are no better than the shoppers though, because they never bother to tell anyone where anything is and it just causes more trouble. It’s almost like the employees use it as a game to see how much trouble they can cause in a short period of time. Even if they do have to leave early from their families, I’m sure they are affected by it all. Having to work all day and night for a couple extra dollars maybe none at all, for what? To hear people yell and scream over the newest COD game or the newest Madden game. Almost getting hit in the face with a DVD because they don’t know where something is. Cyber Monday has always been better, more calm, and you won’t get hit in the face. You won’t have to stand in line for twelve hours just for a dumb toy your kid wants.
