With a first week gross of $161.1 million, Catching Fire, just like the Hunger Games, opened with a bang in the box office. Not only did it make its anticipated amount of money, but it pleased its viewers, staying true to the book almost the entire movie. With the exception of the characters Bonnie and Twill left out from the book, Catching Fire was as accurate as the book, following along with each death of a tribute, down to the pain inflicted on Katniss(Jennifer Lawrence) and her family by President Snow(Donald Sutherland).
The overall quality of the movie was incredible. Not once in this movie was I bored or disinterested, I was at the edge of my seat the entire movie, as many people probably were as well. The movie lived up to the expectations of the Hunger Games fans. Even people who have never read the book would still be pleased with this dystopian fantasy. This movie will captivate the audience of teens and adults without disappointment. If you liked the Hunger Games, then you will most definitely enjoy Catching Fire.
Catching Fire includes everything the definition of a good-quality movie should have: action, romance, and suspense. With Katniss at a crossroads between Peeta(Josh Hutcherson) and Gale(Liam Hemsworth), the movie could not have more tension, but it doesn’t end there. President Snow threatens Katniss and her family, pushing everyone in the audience to the edge of their seats. The Quarter Quell, the 75th Hunger Games, risks Katniss’s and Peeta’s lives. New characters are introduced into the story as well, Johanna Mason(Jena Malone), Finnick Odair(Sam Claflin), and Mags(Lynn Cohen). Every character makes the movie more enjoyable and profound, gradually improving the movie as it goes along.
If you are trying to decide between Catching Fire and another movie to see this break, vote for Catching Fire, or you will regret it. I assure you will not be let down or bored if you watch the movie. You may feel a irritated with the cliffhanger the movie ends with if you haven’t read the series, but you will certainly be satisfied.
