Campus minister Dan Masterton has changed the Catholic Charities holiday fundraiser protocol a bit from last year to concentrate on four families.
“Since I am new to BNI, I am not aware of a lot of the past precedents for things. I’m just trying to build a strong campus ministry here for all of the students and the BNI community,” Masterton said. “I decided that it would be reasonable for each class (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors) to take on one family together. I believe that the 100+ students in each class can come together to support a family.”
In previous years, each advisory picked a child from the “Angel Tree” and purchased a gift according to his or her wishlist. This year’s charity will be run more holistically, according to Masterton.
“Catholic Charities is currently taking applications from needy families and organizing their requests. Within a few weeks, we will receive the information on the families we are adopting, Masterton said.
Collections will be taken through advisories in the time leading up to the holidays.
