The guidance office offers college visits every week. To find more information students should visit the calendar in the guidance homepage; students can google ‘‘Bishop Noll Guidance and Career Counseling.’’
Announcements are also made over the intercom the week of the college visit. Schools that come to visit are not usually chosen by guidance, but contact us instead.
“The schools recognize that we have talented students and basically recruit from our campus,” said Career counselor. On average 30-40 schools have visited Bishop Noll, they usually make these visits in September and October. Visits will go down past November when colleges have deadlines, and they will start again in February to recruit current juniors.
Students can’t just go to a college visit unprepared, its recommended that they think of some questions and also do some research on the school. According to Ms.Ramos students should think of questions they want answers to. They should also ask questions such as, “what are your most popular majors at your school?”, “what is the campus food like?”, “what test scores do I need in order to be competitive?”, “what is job placement like after graduation?”, “does your school offer any support services to students ( i.e. tutoring, writing centers, career centers, disability services)?”.
“As of now, there is no particular curriculum in place for CCP,” Ramos said. Naviance, a college prep site that helps prepare students for SAT/ACT tests, has already been introduced, and students are encouraged to begin working on this process.
“We hope to get into classrooms to present on Naviance within the next two weeks. After that we will provide mini lessons throughout the year for students to work on,” said Ms.Ramos.
In addition, CCP is also a time that college visits are scheduled, allowing students to take their CCP time to go to college visits.
