Let’s Move’s fight on Bake Sales leaves Bishop Noll’s clubs scrambling for new ideas to fundraise since they are not allowed to sell snacks that are more than 200 calories in or out of the cafeteria.
The ‘Let’s Move’ campaign is trying to reduce the obesity in the United States through federal regulations. Food and snacks, not just in the lunch room, have to meet numerous criteria on calories and nutritious values to be available for students. Many schools, including Noll, have found themselves replacing their vending machines, and even fundraising ideas because of this movement.
Bishop Noll’s French Club is known for holding numerous bake sells throughout the school year to help fundraise money. The math department, too, must make adjustments to their annual Pi Day pie sell. Neither of these clubs will be able to do their fundraisers as they are not nutritious to the students.
However, these rules are only set for school hours. The clubs are allowed to sell any treat they desire an hour before and after school is let out.
