Junior Elena Sobilo is a three sport varsity athlete who dominates not only on the court, but inside the classroom, too. Whether it be volleyball, basketball or softball, Sobilo has what it takes to keep her attitude positive and maintain the teams’ stamina to win. Time management helps her achieve a 4.45 GPA even through the numerous games and practices.
“I study on the bus on the way to games and use my time wisely during class,” Sobilo said.
Along with sports and school work, Sobilo is also a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Student Ambassador Club and she is the secretary of the junior class.
With twelve years of softball and seven years of volleyball and basketball under her belt, she knows a little something about teamwork. On January 17th Warrior girls put on a tough battle, beating Wheeler 51 to 43. Sobilo scored ten points from the frame in the third quarter to bring the Lady Warriors back on top. In the final game of the season against Andrean, Sobilo collided with a fellow 59ers guard. She continued to play the rest of the game despite having to receive six stitches following the Warriors 54-49 win.
“This year I was lucky enough to be chosen as captain of the basketball team. I just try to stay positive on the court while keeping everyone focused and encouraging the younger players,” Sobilo said.
Senior year is quickly approaching, raising questions of this athlete’s future plans.
“I would love to play any sport in college if I was given the opportunity. It would be such an honor,” Sobilo said.
She is currently looking into attending either Indiana University Bloomington or Notre Dame in the fall of 2014.
