The girls basketball team has had
great improvement this year from
the past last seasons with a record
of 19-3. With the streak of satisfying
wins this season, the girls
never let it get to their heads.
“As a team, we talked about goals
for games and practices and try to
stay competitive at practice,” said
junior forward Elena Sobilo.
“The next opponent is always
an opportunity to show more
growth,” said head coach Vanita
Gary.
They have accomplished different
goals like winning their season
conference, their conference
tournament and remaining undefeated
at home.
DESIRE, an acronym for “Do Everything
So It’s Right Every time”
has become Gary’s and the team’s
personal mantra. According to
Gary, it keeps the Lady Warriors
focused on skills and
helps motivate them to take on
their opponents.
“In order to advance we have
to remain focused,” said Gary.
“What we have accomplished
in the past no longer matters.
We have to have the DESIRE
to win.”
The Lady Warriors lost to the
Whiting Oilers in the sectional
championship last Saturday,
ending with the score of 65-48.
Despite the tremendous loss,
the girls team is down but not
out. With the entire team returning
next season, they have
their hearts set on next year’s
championship, according to
Sobilo.
