Steve Tapia, the coach of boys tennis, came down with a very serious case of pneumonia early in the season leaving the team coachless until sectionals. Although there was a bump in the road this year, it did not stop the them from continuing on in practice.
“Our team was pretty shaken up but he (Coach Tapia) kept assuring us that he would get over it and kept in touch as much as he could. He ended up returning just in time to coach us during sectionals,” senior Spencer Hickey said.
Over the time that spanned the length of games and practices to sectionals, they had other helpers.
“Mrs. Galfano helped coach us for all of the matches our coach couldn’t be there and she did a great job. All of us had to step up and help each other more since our coach was out and Mrs. Galfano did not have much experience with tennis,” Hickey said.
