In the 2013 Track season, Shana Cooper set a record for BNI’s fastest 100 meter race with 12.46 seconds. Closing in right behind Shana was Asya Hobbs, who set the record for 13.05 seconds in 2011. Not only did these girls set a record for the 100-meter run, but they also set the record for the 200-meter. Shana placed first with 26.09 seconds and Asya with 26.24 seconds.
According to Shana Cooper, the team does not have a weakness; at least they don’t think so. But the team does have a strength, which is the communication between the team as a whole. Sophomore Shana Cooper has her qualms about the graduating seniors and hopes that this year isn’t the last for the team’s good press.
Like most teams, there is a ritual done before a track meet. The team stretches, prays, and does the Warrior Chant.
The coaches are known to be very well educated about the sport and have been labeled as great coaches. They too have expectations for the team, like getting more kids down to state and winning conference.
On March 17, the girls varsity team participated in a track meet at Bishop Noll against T.F. South High School, Thea Bowman Leadership Academy, and Andrean. Noll girls placed second over rival Andrean. “The team’s expectation is probably the same as our goals, win conference first, work hard, and collect state rings later!” From the looks of things they will accomplish this goal with ease.
The first meet of the outdoor season was at Lake Central on March 28th. Be sure to come out and support the girls as they cross the finish line.
