Construction of the new track in the fieldhouse, fundraised for by the cross country and track teams, will tentatively begin by October. US Tennis Court Construction Company of Lockport, IL, will be doing the construction.
Mr. Karl Repay, Sr., boys and girls cross country coach, is a key motivator behind the track’s construction.
“Since I ran here in the 1980’s the goal has always been to have an outdoor facility including a track. We are hoping this is the start of a project that will include an outdoor facility and track,” Repay said.
The last time Bishop Noll has had an updated surface was in the late ‘80s. Due to not having a new surface in so long, the surface has began to gain some uneven spaces. The new track will be beneficial to a lot of activities at Noll such as blood drives, homecoming tailgates, dance, cheer, band, mass and graduation.
The surface of the soon to be new track is the same surface as an outdoor tennis court. As well, as a new track being constructed on the new surface, two new basketball courts are planned to be included on the west end of the fieldhouse. This new coating will allow the fieldhouse to be cleaned up and revitalized.
The cross country and track teams at Noll have sold old weight room equipment with permission, had fish fries, counted ultra receipts and hosted CYO events to fundraise for this. 85% have been raised as of right now.
