On January 30th, the Bishop Noll Lady Warriors took on the Lake Central Indians. Both teams hold impressive records, Bishop Noll with a record of 15-4 and Lake Central with a record of 19-3. Lake Central is ranked #1 in the area with Bishop Noll sitting five spots behind them at #6 in the area. Our Lady Warriors prepared a lot in hopes of a victory.
Coach Vanita Golston was confident in her plans of preparation.
“Our primary focus in preparing for Lake Central was in our defensive strategy and our transition game,” she said.
Coach Vanita planned to hit the Indians with a fast paced offense while maintaining tight defensive play. “We are a team that performs best at an uptempo pace. In order to convert on transition points, we have to be able to force defensive stops, and only allow our opponent one shot attempt.” Coach Vanita was confident in her team and had expectations of a win. “Like any game, our team expectation was to win. My expectations of the girls are to value the basketball each possession, to run the floor without taking a single possession off, and trust their teammates.”
Unfortunately, in a hard fought effort our Lady Warriors were defeated by the Lake Central Indians 77-43.
Despite the tough loss the Lady Warriors are also looking forward to the start of the postseason. The postseason is right around the corner. With that being said, the Lady Warriors are already preparing for the postseason. Coach V had this to say about their expectations for the postseason.“Postseason is exciting, because the regular season win-loss record no longer matters. It is a one and done situation for everyone. So, regardless of the opponent, we have to be ready to perform well each game. Having made it to Regionals last season, we want more… but we have to take it one game at a time.”
