When he isn’t returning kicks on the football field, junior Anthony Davis tumbles for a Chicago tumbling club.

Junior Anthony Davis boldly made everyone aware of his presence last school year when he transferred to Bishop Noll from T.F. South. Davis was not only a major addition to the football team, but he also made an appearance as a male lifter and as the cheerleading team’s one and only tumbler. This year, Davis is still gracing Noll with his numerous talents. He thrilled the crowd at several basketball games last season as he flipped up and down the court at halftime.

“As a football player, I understand how players on the court will feel if the crowd is pumped during the games, so I want the players on the court to feel the same as I would feel on the football field,” Davis said. “It brings excitement to the players on the court and they are able to perform at the highest of their abilities knowing there are people there cheering them on.”

According to Davis, he began tumbling at the young age of only 4-years old. Now, at 16, Davis has been tumbling on teams for about 12 years. When Davis was in the 5th grade, the Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team performed at his church’s picnic and that inspired him to join their team and become a professional at what he loved doing. Davis has been a member of the Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team since 2012.

“I know for sure my talent for gymnastics comes from watching others on youtube or even in person. It helps me try new things and how to perfect my skills,” says Davis.

Davis was not always confident in his tumbling until one day he was forced to be confident and perform in front of hundreds of people.

“Ever since my very first performance at the Chicago Bulls stadium, I was very nervous but once I hit the floor and started to tumble and everyone was cheering us on, it build my confidence,” he says. “Ever since that day, I just think of the excitement and feedback I get for my unique talent.

— It makes me feel appreciated because knowing I can make a crowd get out their seats just to see me tumble on the floor makes me want to do it all the time.

Not only is he fire on the halftime court, but he also burned up the football field this year as a junior as the team’s highest scorer this past season. He was also awarded Bishop Noll’s September Athlete of the Month. Right now, though, Davis is taking an offseason from the Chicago Boyz Acrobatic Team to focus on wrestling and male lifting at Noll.
