Jimmy Butler’s World

We’re just living in it

Heading into the new NBA season, lots of questions were to be asked about this Bulls team. Could Dwyane Wade turn this team around? Was Rajon Rondo worth signing? Can Jimmy Butler make the next step in becoming a superstar?

On June 22, the Chicago Bulls decided to move past the Derrick Rose era in Chicago and have a new start. Rose was sent to the New York Knicks as well as Justin Holiday and a 2017 2nd-round pick and in return the Bulls got Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon, and Jerian Grant. A couple days later Calderon was dropped by the Bulls.

In the offseason, the Bulls had made some pretty bold moves. Signing veteran point guard Rajon Rondo to a two year contract worth 28 million. Many people were questioning this move because of Rondo’s past trouble’s with previous teams. The Bulls had also signed Miami Heat legend and Chicago native Dwyane Wade to a two year deal worth 47 million. Although Wade is at the end of his career, he should provide a spark to the Bulls and put people in the seats. With the Big Three of Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade, and Rajon Rondo the Bulls were built to be a contender, or so we thought.

To start the season the Bulls were clicking. It seemed as though the trio of Butler, Wade, and Rondo was working out better than planned. The Bulls won their first three games of the season beating Eastern Conference powerhouse Boston Celtics, and young talented Indiana Pacers. Butler and Wade were starting to hit three pointers, which they were not very well known for. After this, the Bulls fell back down to earth.

After the first week of the regular season everyone was thinking the Bulls may actually be a team to contend in the playoffs, and could potentially beat the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bulls are currently 19-21, which is ninth in the Eastern Conference, putting them out of the playoffs. Recently there has been tension in the locker room with players and management, Rondo has been benched for many of the previous games, which he does not like.

One plus side of the Bulls season has been Jimmy Butler. Butler has been playing at a MVP level this season. Putting up 25 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and 4.7 assists per game. Over his last five games, Butler has been averaging nearly 40 points per game. Without Jimmy Butler, the Bulls wouldn’t have at least 10 wins. Butler is single handedly carrying this team on his back.

Moves need to be made to make this team better. A possible trade the Bulls may be able to make is to acquire young big man Nerlens Noel from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Rajon Rondo and or Taj Gibson. Noel provides great interior defending and athleticism. Something needs to be done about this team, the Bulls have too good of a roster to be playing below .500 basketball.

On a positive note, Jimmy Butler is a star, maybe even a superstar. He is the face of this franchise, but he can’t do it all himself. He needs some help. This is really just Jimmy Butler’s world, we’re just living in it.
