Bishop Noll’s boys volleyball team is elated with the start of being an official Indiana high school sport this season. Since the introduction of the program back 2016, being an official sport that represents Noll has always been the goal. The boys have been facing a very difficult schedule this season with competing against the top teams in Indiana and Illinois, their current record being (4-10). The schedule struggle helped them prepare for regionals and possibly come back with a title.

With low numbers on the team, Coach Dave Rodriguez has expected everyone to step up in some way and he has not been disappointed yet.

“Senior Nick Wichlinski has stepped up his game to help lead the back row, with coming up with some big digs and a handful of pancakes as well”, Rodriguez said.

The team also relies on senior Brandon Fuentes to take them all the way to the big state game.

“Brandon Fuentes has taken the spot as the leader on our team. He’s an athletic machine and will do anything it takes to get us that state championship. Thanks to our fearless captain, we can do no wrong,” Junior, Joey Minor said.

Despite the low numbers on the bench, the boys believe that they do not portray any weaknesses. The team believes their intense practices and hard work this season will help them achieve their ultimate goal. With having a senior heavy team there is a lot of leadership to go around. With having six seniors out of the thirteen boys on the team, Coach Dave plans on looking out for some more players to build up their team for next spring.

The boys plan on taking every game very seriously and playing with everything they have in them.

“We just need to focus in practice and treat every game like it’s our last,” says senior captain, Brandon Fuentes.
