Bishop Noll’s baseball season is right around the corner and the team looks ready to play ball.

Head coach Ryan Julian has a certain goal that he wants to achieve this season, and that’s to reclaim the sectional championship.

Due to Covid, many sports during the fall and winter seasons have had interruptions, but Julian hopes it gets back to normal this year.

“Hopefully we can get back to a more normal season this spring,” he said. “Last year Covid brought many challenges, but hopefully the young men of BNI Baseball are prepared for it now.”

The preseason officially starts the second week of March with tryouts on March 7 and March 9 for all new players to the program.

In order for another run at the sectional championship, Julian believes the team needs to work on their offense.

“We need to improve holding runners accountable on the base paths. We are also looking for players to dominate the middle portion of our lineup, he said

With 8 seniors returning to varsity, the team is mainly a veteran group of guys thirsty for a championship.

“We have seniors this year who are ready to compete and bring a sectional Championship back to BNI anyway possible,” Julian said.

Coach Ryan has a list of some players who are key players that have talent or skill. and this is the list, catcher Ethan Lopez, center fielder Matt Salazar, senior, relief pitcher Mateo Aguliera, senior, first baseman Jacob Rosa, shortstop Alex Ortiz, Pitcher, right fielder Dan Huerta, senior, first baseman Christian Ayala, second baseman Cesar Perez, senior

Going up against heavy hitters like Illiana Christian, Hanover Central, and Whiting, BNI has a pretty tough conference,  but that won’t stop them from seeking revenge. Last year, the Warriors fell to the Illiana Christian Vikings in a sectional playoff game 0-14.

“We need to put a target on Illiana Christian’s Back,” Julian said. “They are the only team standing in the way of our goals. We need to outplay them in conference and the sectional Playoffs.”
