Not only has the Bishop Noll marching band added football halftime shows to their resume this year, but this past Columbus Day, they performed in the 60th annual Columbus Day Parade in Chicago, where they were awarded the “Marching Band Patriotic Award”.
“Our panel and marshals were impressed with your musical choice, grand sound and professional manner your band displayed,” said Marie Pinto of the Joint Civics Committee of Italian Americans.
The band played “America the Beautiful” as the dance team and cheer team marched with the group.
In addition to performing this October, the band will be stepping along the parade route once again in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“This is a huge deal for us. It is like the Superbowl of parades in the Chicago are,” says Bishop Noll Band Director Rocco Carioto.
The band will be performing a song called “Angels on Parade”. The song starts with “Angels We Have Heard On High’, goes into “Jingle Bells”, “Oh Christmas Tree” and ends with “Joy to the World.”
“We not only are there to entertain the crowd but make sure people don’t forget the reason for the season.” said Carioto.
