The envirothon team will be facing numerous schools in Indiana as they fight for the state title position in Washington, IN on April 30. Seniors Brayden Banske, Danny Pobereyko, Anthony Repay, Douglas Roach, Will Kasprzycki and junior Nicholas Anglin placed 2nd at regionals, securing their seat in the state championship.
The envirothon competition takes the brightest high school science students from across Indiana and tests them on their knowledge of the environment and how to promote its well being. Although a majority of the schools competing are from rural areas of the state, Noll will represent Northwest Indiana as the suburban underdog. The competition requires the students to create a project which constructs a location that can be developed into a sustainable rangeland. Students will have no more than 12 minutes to present their project to the judges. Students also have to take a written test based on their knowledge of five major environmental topics including wildlife, forestry, aquatic ecology, soils and sustainable range and poster management.
“I did not expect to make it this far, but I am so proud of these students,” said Mrs. Rosalie Schmidt, science teacher and envirothon sponsor. “They worked really hard and I know they can achieve great things.”
