Amhurst Asylum is located in Valparaiso, Indiana and is open every weekend, Friday-Sunday up until the 24th of October, which is then open the last two Wednesdays of the month. Fridays and Saturdays it’s open from 7:00-11:00pm, and on the Thursdays and Sundays its open from 7:00-10:00pm. Tickets are $20 and the asylums story is that there once was a picture perfect medical practice in the Midwest, the Amhurst Psychiatric Hospital was shut down by authorities nearly four decades ago. On the premises they found the remains of over two dozen victims, many with their organs harvested, others kept alive by crude methods of life support. Many rooms of the hospital contained unethical human experiments performed illegally by the hospital’s leading surgeon and founder, Dr. John Amhurst. The debauchery against humanity found within those hospital walls horrified the local people, press and families of the victims. The culprit Dr. Amhurst was nowhere to be found. Police did however find what could only be described as “pieces of woman” believed to be Dr. Amhurst’s late wife. Amhurst’s wife suffered from a disease that infected her body, and her organ’s would rot away one at a time, Amhurst used his patient’s body parts and transplanted them into his wife to try and save her.
The house was overall pretty great, the characters all seemed like they were really into it, and they made it very realistic. One of the patients there, was crawling around on the floor, and licking my dad’s car keys. I have never been, but I would recommend it to anyone who likes scary and crazy things. Although, if you don’t like to be touched by deranged lunatics, I’d have to say that is the wrong place to go, because they are all for touching you. The asylum is 40,000 square feet, and every inch of that place, they try to scare you, the actors really enjoy their job, because they really get into it and play their part of a crazy person. ⅘ stars
Fear itself, or Legendary Scream Park, is located in Mishawaka Indiana and is open every Thursday through Saturday, until the 23rd which it is then open every Tuesday and Wednesday also. Tuesdays through Thursdays the house is open until 11pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays it’s open until midnight. The tickets are $40 on Friday and Saturday, and $30 Tuesday through Thursdays. What makes this house different, is that its also open the first two weekends of November. This attraction has four different haunted houses, 13th hour 4D, Rock Monkey Caves, Sinister Circus, and Cuckoo’s Nest. All 13th hour really is, is just a room with bright pictures on the walls, you get a pair of 3D glasses, and walk around the room looking at everything. There was no one hiding anywhere, nor trying to scare you. Rock Monkey Caves, was the same exact thing, but no glasses, and no pretty pictures. You walked through a room that make it look like you were in a cave. There was one person walking around, but it didn’t make it anymore scarier. Sinister Circus, wasn’t as bad as the other two there were clowns that followed you around, but you were always in a large group. Sometimes its better to be alone, because then you have to find your own way out. There was a mirror maze, but nothing was to DIE for. Lastly, was the Cuckoo’s Nest, that had to top my list. The Cuckoo’s nest is an Asylum that is ran by nurse Hatchet, and she controls all the patients inside. Jimmy, one of the patients will take you around the Asylum, showing you all the disgusting truths that lie inside. The doctors do lobotomy, which is where you cut open one’s head without medicine, and they feel the entire thing, killing the patient and taking out all their organs, and much more. The asylum was one of my favorites, because the actors liked to wipe their blood on your face, or grab you.⅖ stars
