Bishop Noll administration is finalizing the new technical diploma, which will be an option for juniors and seniors, beginning within the next two years.
BNI students can earn college credit and/or certification in many technological programs that will be taught on the BNI campus or at the Hammond Career Center. The 14 programs at the Hammond Career Center that are available include auto technology, computer information technology, cosmetology, culinary and pastry arts and sciences, digital imaging and design, entrepreneurship academy, industrial maintenance/welding, collision and refinishing technology, construction technology, criminal justice and law, dental assisting, early childhood education services, health careers, and multimedia broadcast academy.
The students would take classes for part of the day at the Hammond Career Center in their chosen area of study and then for the rest of the day, they would take their regular Core 40 classes. The classes are designed to establish a student’s career in that field following graduation. The programs involve either one-year or two-year plans taking options for other classes away, however, the end result will be that the students are qualified to work in their field of study immediately after graduation.
“I feel it is important to offer this diploma to our students so they have an opportunity to receive hands-on, real world training in the program of their choice. The technical honors diploma gives BNI students a leg up on a career or college program after graduation. This option further advances our philosophy of educating all students’ minds, bodies, and souls,” said Craig Stafford, principal.
Requirements for the diploma will hopefully be outlined in the 2015-2016 handbook.
Students would have to drive themselves to the Career Center, but a bus may be provided to transport students at a further point in time.
