Senior Nick Anglin is one of two students to receive the Brady Comeback Scholarship. This award honors two high school students and two college students for returning to their sport after being badly injured.
About a month ago, Mrs. Marianne Galfano, former athletic director, called Nick to her office to inform him that he was eligible for a scholarship based on his injury. The Brady Comeback Scholarship requires the nominee to overcome an injury that prevented them from participating in a sport. The scholarship also requires the nominee to be in good academic standing, a criteria easy for the valedictorian. It also requires the nominee to return to their sport and achieve beyond any expectations, which Nick did with utter poise and perseverance.
After falling from a 30 foot zipline, Nick was in a lot of pain and a bit discouraged from the whole fall. Despite his ill feelings, the camaraderie from the cross country team and the support from all of his loved ones brought him up and inspired him to continue doing what he really enjoys- running. Although his times were not matched with his junior year, Nick still defeated all odds by returning to the team.
“I didn’t expect the opportunity to exist in the first place, so I felt pretty blessed when I actually ended up getting it.”. The scholarship is $1,000 for each of the four recipients, accompanied by a formal dinner in Indianapolis. Nick stated that hearing all the other stories was amazing and “really makes you think about how much good God can bring out of a bad situation.”. Nick is going to be attending Indiana University Bloomington this fall and he plans to study biology.
