Students who have a passion for learning about the environment have a chance to participate in this year’s Envirothon. Envirothon is an academic competition where teams learn about the environment and compete against other school’s teams.
“Envirothon is about knowing and understanding wildlife, aquatic ecosystems, forestry, soil and whatever the current issue is,” said Ms. Schmidt, Envirothon sponsor. “During regionals, we compete with other teams by taking multiple choice tests after hearing 5 talks about the topics.”
The issue for this year’s Envirothon is currently unknown and is expected to be revealed this February or March. To prepare for this year the team will be focussing on questions that last year’s team missed.
“Last year’s team qualified for state and finished in 5th place.” said Schmidt. “It was a challenge because the team had to give their presentation twice.”
Students who are interested in being apart of the Envirothon team can sign up in room 107. The team will be meeting on Tuesday’s during SRTs. The goal this year is to take two teams beyond the regional competition.
