The French club here at Bishop Noll Institute will host a Sock Hop in the BNI cafeteria on Friday, Nov. 7 from 3:30 to 6:30.
BNI’s French club, made up of the students taking French 3 and French 4, are responsible for coming up with the club’s activities. Last year, the club developed the “Let Them Eat Cake” bake sale as the fundraiser; however, new federal guidelines prohibits bake sales during school hours.
“When this year’s board found out they couldn’t sell baked goods during school hours because of the new federal regulations, they came up with the idea of a dance where they could still sell baked goods,” said French teacher Diane Wilson.
A sock hop is designed to convey the idea of a casual wear dance held right after school, compared to more formal dances held in the evening.
“No one is [expected] to dance in their socks,” Wilson said.
The sock hop is school-wide and only costs $3 for a single ticket and $5 for a couple’s ticket. All the money funds their trip to France.
“Everybody come out and dance, dance, dance!” Wilson said.
