Boy’s Libero Backbone of the Team

Sophomore Justin Rodriquez is the Bishop Noll boys volleyball libero and is the main force behind the creation of the boys team.

Justin’s dad, Dave Rodriguez, who is also the girls volleyball team at Bishop Noll, realized that his son was going to attend Bishop Noll and decided to expand the volleyball program.

Justin said his dad saw the opportunity to to create interest in the sport among Justin’s friends.

Justin is the only Noll player with any prior formal experience and leads the team as the libero, which is a back row player who is a passer and must wear a contrasting color of the rest of his team’s colors.

Formerly a baseball player, Justin’s love for baseball was overlapped by volleyball. And it was then when he decided to focus on volleyball fully.

“The moment I realized I loved volleyball was when i was about 13 and i finally gave up all sports but volleyball to really focus on it,” Justin said.

Outside of Bishop Noll, Justin plays club volleyball for USA junior volleyball association. However, that does not stop him from giving his all to his team at BNI. He is excited for the season this year and thinks our team will do good this year and cannot wait to show how good the team is and what they are capable of doing. He also thinks the team needs to work on their bonding with each other.

“I have really good communication and can ‘coach’ on the court but i really need to get better at not getting frustrated so easily,” said Justin.

Catch Justin in action next tonight against Chesterton High School at 7:00.

In 2017, Justin was ranked number 3 in the nation for libero in his age group. His reaction was, “For real? Dang that’s pretty cool.”

Finally, he has an idea of what he wants to do with his volleyball career after his time here at Bishop Noll and after college as well.

“I plan to play in college and possibly play in like an overseas league.”
