Ski club’s first slopes of the season

Ski club, run by social studies teacher Mr. Alec Haines, took their first trip of the season this past weekend at Swiss Valley Ski Resort in Jones, Michigan.

Haines has been in charge of the club since its birth in the winter of 2018. And senior Addison Cipowski, has been a part of it since her sophomore year.

“I joined the ski club because I learned how to ski from a young age,” Cipowski said.

The club is open to any Bishop Noll student where experience is not expected, but recommended as learning to ski can be a slow process. The club’s goal is to give BNI students the opportunity to experience skiing or snowboarding.

Senior Carolina Martinez said, “I think more students should get involved in this club, because it’s truly an adventurous experience and who doesn’t want to learn a new skill!”

The club has been visiting Swiss Valley since 2018 as it was the first outing they went on as a group. They may also revisit another hill or slope in the future in Michigan if weather is permitting. However, no official second date has been set.

“I had a great experience on the ski trip this year, especially since my friends learned super quick. It’s not easy, and I’m proud of them for not giving up. I’m so glad I got to share one of my favorite winter activities with them. It was definitely a life long memory,” Cipowski said.
