This Saturday, Bishop Noll students are volunteering for Whiting’s Empanada Fest at Whiting Lakefront Park.

The event, which was organized by the Whiting Hispanic Heritage Organization and the Whiting Parks Department, celebrates Hispanic heritage.

Bishop Noll’s admissions assistant, Ms. Zahari Gomez, is helping with the festival. According to Gomez, over 40 students have volunteered. Some students will directly be helping out with the festival and others will help with the cleanup on Sunday. These volunteers will receive service hours for their assistance.

“I think that this event is very important,” Gomez said, “The Whiting Latino community has grown tremendously in the last two decades and we had nothing to help us celebrate our heritage.”

Visitors can expect plenty of food trucks and the following entertainment: Ballet Folklórico Yolotzin, Mariachi Sirenas, Banda Venenosa, Impacto Boricua, Latin Satin Soul, a Salsa dancing class with Jibaro Dance Studio, and DJ Jaime House.
